Resources
(Mostly a page full of links to help get you started.)

There is a lot of sites you could go to. All you have to do, is type in genealogy into yahoo
or your own favorite search engine and you are going to get as Have in doing a yahoo search is 9,560,000 sites on
genealogy. Very overwhelming to say the least. Here are a list of tried and true websites that have helped me along the way. Some
well require a fee if you want to dug deeper into their site. Some will not. All of these links come from my own bookmarks, they
are sites that I have used time and time again for general research.($requires a fee to do deeper research)
Cyndi's List Cyndi has
this site organized by every idea imaged. From surnames to cemeteries. You can be at this site for weeks, and still have sites from
her lists to follow through. With more than 185,450 links, 182,900categorized&cross- referenced, more than 150 categories, I
assure you can find something of interest that pertains to your family surname. And you won't have to go through the 9,560,000sites that yahoo came up with on my search. Too much to start
off with, ok, begin with a surname search at the following websites.
Gendex With a search list of 1113882 Surnames, you should be able to find someone here.
Go to the surname database and type in the surname you want. From there you can narrow down the first name you are looking
for. You could lucky here and find that someone is doing the same research you are. You may have yourself a research buddy. :) Update, this site has been terminated,
Don't know why.
Ancestry $ A fairly
good, organize website, but you may get frustrated if you are not able to pay for some of the service they have to offer. But it is
great start if you want to put up a family tree, that is free, the last time I looked. You can share your family tree to
others, or keep it to yourself. The forums is slightly good, but most of the time there are problems replying or making a new message.
But look over the old threads anyway, you could find someone that may help you. Or find a much needed clue. The forums of this site
and others, it has been a huge resource for me.
Family Search Another great start for your surname search.
From birth records to pedigree records and 1880 census. Information comes from other researchers, so make sure you have a
second source before you record your facts. Explore this website, you can also order family worksheets from free to low cost. They
ship fairly quickly. My last order came to less than 5 dollars. They also have other information where you can find more help.
Genealogy($) Go to the community link to
get into the forums for more help here. You need to register, but that part is
free. It is also much easier to reply to a thread or make a new one. Also like Ancestry if you want to dig deeper, there is a
fee. There is also a family tree maker, and that is free also.
Native American
Data Looking for Indian heritage in your line. Try the roll calls. This is hosted at Rootsweb. Type in the surname you
are looking for and go. Database contains 285307 records (17685 surnames).Selected locations and tribes (as contributed)
US GenWeb Census Project
Searchable census that may lead you to your ancestors. Its free and very easy to use. You may not find the actual sheet where
the census is handwritten, but you can follow your census search after going to Us GenWeb at Heritage Online. You can find
the information that I have for Heritage
here. It may be easier for some
ancestors that you are looking for, to go to Us GenWeb, collect the data there,
like state, county, year of the census, page number the are listed on. And than go to Heritage to look at the actual page and
perhaps make a copy if you like.
Once you find out where your ancestors lived, and you want to search for a specific state
and county, you can try Cyndi's list for that or do a yahoo search. Most counties have their own genealogical website and are
very helpful. If you can't find the state/county that you want, drop me an
email. I can do a quick search for you online, to see if
I can find it for you, or at least lead you in the right direction.
Cinnamon Toast Genealogy
Thesis a really good place to start searching for Genealogy information. I have just discovered the site myself last
week. The three main searches you can do from here, are Regions, Records and Religions. With 7,752 links, and 139,128
surnames. Very friendly to use Genealogy site.
Bureau of Land Management
General land office records site, that allows you to search for ancestors that may have held land patents. The site does not cover
the thirteen colonies, and a few other states. But have some resource links you can check out. To use the site, click on "Search
Land Patents".
